BRISTOL TN SUES BRISTOL VA

THE CITY OF BRISTOL TENNESSEE FILED A FEDERAL LAWSUIT AGAINST BRISTOL VIRGINIA THURSDAY, OVER ONGOING ISSUES SURROUNDING THE CITYu2019S LANDFILL. ODORS FROM THE BRISTOL VIRGINIA LANDFILL HAVE IMPACTED RESIDENTS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE STATE LINE SINCE THE FALL OF 2020. IN THE LAWSUIT, BRISTOL TENNESSEE IS SEEKING A PRELIMINARY INJUNCTION, ORDERING BRISTOL VIRGINIA TO IMMEDIATELY STOP THE INTAKE OF WASTE AT THE FACILITY, AND TO IMPLEMENT RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ADDRESSING THE LANDFILL ISSUE, MADE BY AN EXPERT PANEL ASSEMBLED BY THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY. THE CITY IS ALSO SEEKING TO RECOVER DAMAGES ARISING FROM THE ALLEGED INADEQUATE OPERATION OF THE LANDFILL.

CEDAR BLUFF WOMAN KILLED IN MOTORCYCLE CRASH

A WOMAN IS DEAD AFTER A SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH IN RUSSELL COUNTY VIRGINIA WEDNESDAY. ACCORDING TO THE VIRGINIA STATE POLICE, A CF MOTO MOTORCYCLE WAS TRAVELING NORTH ON ROUTE 19 NEAR ROUTE 782, WHEN IT RAN OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ROAD AND HIT A GUARD RAIL. OFFICERS RESPONDED TO THE SCENE AT 12:47 PM, AND DETERMINED THE DRIVER 29 YEAR OLD BRITTANY COOPER OF CEDAR BLUFF HAD DIED AT THE SCENE. SHE HAD BEEN WEARING A HELMET. THE CRASH REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

BAYS MT TO UNVEIL NEW LEGACY TRAIL

BAYS MOUNTAIN PARK AND PLANETARIUM IS PLANNING TO HOLD A RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY FOR A NEW HIKING AND BIKING TRAIL ON JUNE 3RD. ACCORDING TO A RELEASE, THE NAME OF THE NEW TRAIL WILL BE UNVEILED AT THE CEREMONY AT 3:30 PM. TRAIL CONSTRUCTION BEGAN IN THE FALL OF 2021, AND IS THE FIRST NEW TRAIL TO BE BUILT IN ALMOST A DECADE. THE NEW LEGACY TRAIL WILL BE ONE OF THE LONGEST IN THE PARK, SPANNING 4.2 MILES. THE TRAIL WILL START NEAR CHESTNUT TRAIL AND RUN PARALLEL TO RIVER MOUNTAIN ROAD, WHICH WILL PROVIDE EASIER ACCESS TO THE FIRE TOWER. THE TRAIL COST AROUND 65,000 DOLLARS TO BUILD, WHICH WAS MADE POSSIBLE BY DONATIONS.

DUI CHARGE FOLLOWING CRASH

A GREENEVILLE MAN WAS CHARGED WITH DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE, FOLLOWING A CRASH WEDNESDAY EVENING. POLICE RESPONDED TO THE 700 BLOCK OF EAST CHURCH STREET IN GREENEVILLE AROUND 10:00 PM WEDNESDAY, AFTER A SINGLE VEHICLE CRASH. OFFICERS FOUND 58 YEAR OLD BILLY WILHOIT WHO PERFORMED POORLY ON FIELD SOBRIETY TESTS. HE WAS CHARGED WITH DUI, AND TAKEN TO THE GREENE COUNTY DETENTION CENTER.
