Mayor Offers to Change Last Name to Sugardaddie for $1M

(NEW YORK) -- In a publicity stunt, the dating website Sugardaddie.com offered the town of Sugar Hill, Ga., $3.75 million to change its name to Sugardaddie, Ga., for a year.

That offer was rebuffed, but Mayor Gary Pirkle has presented a counter-offer: For a million dollars, he'll change his last name to Sugardaddie for a year.

According to the Buford Patch website, the would-be Mayor Sugardaddie took a lengthy meeting with a rep for the company in which the mayor not only offered to sacrifice his surname for the financial gain of the town, but also said Sugardaddie could construct a bronze statue of a gold digger there as well.  This was a counter-offer as well -- Sugardaddie apparently wanted a likeness of Hugh Hefner, but Pirkle said that wouldn't be appropriate.

While the term "gold digger" has cheekier implications in the dating world that tie into the website's users -- affluent men looking for women who want generous guys -- Pirkle says Sugar Hill does have a gold mining past.
